Revisiting and advancing the theory that underlies practice

Explore the research
Overview

The side of computing not concerned with algorithms is largely accounted for operationally rather than mathematically within computing theory.

Our research works at the level of that theory to investigate and potentially address the asymmetry that complicates practice.

Engineering shapes the agenda. Research investigates the underlying theory, derives new models where necessary, and realigns engineering. The aim is to develop models precise enough to reason about these problems, general enough to apply across computing, and concrete enough to guide implementation.

We plan to share our findings, models, and formulations with the broader research community.

Our founding research program is Convergent Machines: a formal model for computation where results remain converged on the state from which they are derived.

The Convergent Machines paper, our founding paper, establishes the problem, core claims, and the proposal for a new foundational unit of computation.
