State as a first-class problem in computing

Convergent Machines Lab is an engineering and research lab working on state as a first-class problem in computing.

The thesis is that computing fits together differently, with half of today’s machinery gone, when state receives the central treatment in computing that has historically eluded it.

We’re revisiting the underlying principles of computing and rederiving the existing substrate from them. Engineering informs the research. Research informs the engineering. The loop is what defines the lab.

Our mission is taming complexity for those taming complexity — whether that’s the human engineer or AI engineer.

We consider this mission fulfilled when state moves from the engineering layer to the substrate underneath — taking the same path that memory management took.
