Taming complexity for those who tame complexity
Explore the workOur engineering tackles some of the most fundamental challenges of moving state from the engineering layer to the substrate underneath.
We write new compilers, execution engines, and protocols — rederiving the layers and boundaries of the existing computing substrate.
Research establishes the central model. Engineering unifies it across the computing stack — from the language and runtime layer to the distributed systems layer. The work materialises as libraries and frameworks, new online and offline database engines, protocols and specifications, polyfills for the web platform, and more — each moving responsibility downward through the substrate.
The long-term outcome is a computing substrate in which state, observability, and convergence are treated through a unified model.
Our starting implementation language is JavaScript, particularly because of its significance to the web. The web is a vast computing substrate in which state, observation, persistence, distribution, and change meet directly. It is therefore a central environment in which to develop and realize this work.
